The Prince Edward Award for Excellence in Horticulture for David Domoney

The Prince Edward Award for Excellence in Horticulture has been presented to Chartered Horticulturalist and Broadcaster David Domoney by the Master of The Worshipful Company of Gardeners, David Green CB. QC. at The Goldsmiths Hall in the city of London.

The Prince Edward Award highlights real excellence in the field of Horticulture, Horticultural Education and Career Development. His Royal Highness selects a candidate who offers innovative and effective ways of motivating people to take up horticulture as a career. They facilitate the advancement of individuals in their chosen horticulture fields, provide excellence in career development or are simply seen as inspirational.

Domoney has worked in the horticultural industry for 39 years. He was educated in horticulture at Warwick, Pershore and Hadlow and he enjoyed a successful early career at the forefront of the commercial garden sector. Over the past two decades David has been an active broadcaster with ITV1 on a variety of highly popular gardening television shows, whilst also writing weekly for national newspapers and monthly in gardening magazines. He pioneered the Young Gardeners of the Year competition (now in its 8th Year), giving horticultural students the opportunity to showcase their design and landscaping skills. It’s now one of the most successful youth in horticulture competitions around, with over 750 pre-graduates gaining show garden experience before they leave the college gates.

David also founded the national community gardening campaign Cultivation Street (now in its 6th year), supporting thousands of community gardeners across Britain and supporting school gardens with information, helplines, competitions, newsletters and plants.

He has won 30 RHS medals and is the Ambassador to the Chartered institute of Horticulture, Ambassador to Thrive (a charity supporting people living with disability), Garden Champion for the mental health charity SANE, Patron for the Hedgehog Preservation Society,  Commercial Board Member for the Royal Horticultural Society, as well as Governor of the London Colleges of Horticulture at Capel Manor, David gives his time freely to support charitable organisations - societies who share his belief of making a difference through horticulture.
