Student, Luke Spiller, has won a South West Growers Show (SWGS) Sponsored Scholarship as part of the David Colegrave Foundation (DCF) scholarship season.

Luke, who has just completed a Level 2 Horticulture course at Bicton College in Devon, has received the £1,500 South West Growers Show (SWGS) Sponsored Scholarship.

Luke was top practical student on his course as well as being a nursery worker and gardener. He is now continuing his studies at Pershore College in Worcester, where he will complete Level 3 in Horticulture. His funding will help with accommodation and a qualification to use machinery in public which will be beneficial for future employment.

Luke says, “I am very grateful for this scholarship from the South West Growers Show by way of the David Colegrave Foundation. This is going to help me to progress and expand my horticultural knowledge even further. This kind gift will change everything for me allowing me to become more qualified and become a better horticulturalist.”

The SWGS Sponsored Scholarship supports students with a passion for commercial and production horticulture. The SWGS is the South West’s leading trade show for commercial horticulture. David Jackson, Chair of the SWGS Scholarships says, “I am pleased to see Luke make the most of this opportunity; he will really benefit from this bursary. Congratulations Luke.”

As part of the DCF Scholarship Season several scholarships were available. This year a total seven students studying horticulture have been awarded £10,000 worth of scholarships by the David Colegrave Foundation (DCF).

The next Scholarship Season runs from Sep 2018 to Jan 2019.
