Leadership and management success for employees as at Haskins Garden Centres

Company: Haskins Garden Centres

Eight employees working across Haskins Garden Centres in Ferndown in Dorset, West End in Southampton and Roundstone and Snowhill in West Sussex have achieved success by completing their management and leadership training.

In January, the employees received their results for their Institute of Management Level 2 awards which they studied through Bournemouth and Poole College. Since 2010, Haskins has offered the course to its employees and every five years, those successful employees are asked to take their Level 4 exams.

Each of the students, from all four centres and the head office at Haskins were required to come up with a way to improve an aspect of their own business area and presented their solutions to the Haskins senior management team.

Julian Winfield, CEO at Haskins Garden Centre, said “The presentations just get better and better every year and we are delighted to have some projects that we can take forward and implement across the business.”

Haskins is working to achieve the Investor In People’s gold award in 2019, Emma Farley, HR manager, added: “Yet again we have seen some fantastic presentations and all on projects that will help to improve the business. The standard seems to get better every year and the benefits to the business are phenomenal, not only through the output of the projects but also due to the growth of the staff involved. It is a privilege to see their confidence develop and in many cases move into other roles as a result of the knowledge course gives them.”

Lynne Knight, outdoor assistant team leader at Haskins Roundstone: “Achieving this award has allowed me to become much more aware of the different aspects of the business and has helped gather the support needed to make improvements.”
