G7 Computer Services celebrate 20 years of perfecting EPOS Solutions for the Retail Industry

Company: G7

When Insight Software Solutions went into administration in 1992 seven former employees decided to continue their work, seeing a promising future in the computer technology industry those 7 colleagues formed G7 Computer Services Ltd. Starting out as resellers of the Hillplan Nursery software the company were able to begin building the foundations of their customer base.

Renting a small office space in the centre of Fareham, Hampshire, the company quickly grew in numbers adding more technical and support staff to the team. Targeting Garden Centres as a niche market, G7 were able to grow a steady and loyal customer base.

G7 began installing the Retrieve EPOS software in the mid 90’s with their own in-house development team making adjustments to the system to suit individual client needs throughout the years.

By 1999 G7 had plenty of experience within the Horticultural industry and decided to target Garden Centres in the USA. However in 2003 it was decided to terminate the USA expansion plan and focus all resources on trading within the UK and Channel Islands.

In 2004 a rapid growth in the UK market meant staff numbers were increasing, and a move to new offices in Waterlooville, Hampshire proved to be the perfect place to accommodate new staff.

By this time the G7 Development team had already started working on the EPOS Extreme solution which launched in 2006 and is now installed in over 100 sites across the UK. In 2007 the company became Channel Partners of Torex and official resellers of the Torex BE Solution for retailers.

While maintaining a strong presence in the Garden Centre industry, G7 started to build a reputation in Hospitality and other Retail sectors. With customer numbers rising and staff increasing it was time again to look for a larger office. In 2009 G7 moved across the road in Waterlooville to a separate office building where they reside today.

G7 became official partners of Toshiba Technologies in 2010 enabling them to offer a wider range of Hardware to suit different retail environments. Also partners with Box Technologies, suppliers of EPOS hardware. G7 share their 20th anniversary this year with Box who opened for business just 5 months earlier in June 1992.

Starting with 7 employees G7 now employ 25 staff across 5 teams of Accounts, Sales and Marketing, Development, Project Management and Customer Support.  There are those who have been with G7 from the very beginning and still play a key role in the day to day running of the business, including; Developers Mark Mason and Robert Craig, as well as Joint Managing Directors; Neil Biltcliffe and Keith Lucas.
