GIMA urges members to stand firm against Home Retail

Home Retail Group, owner of Homebase and Argos, is the latest national retailer to try and muscle additional rebates from suppliers.

The Telegraph has published extracts from a letter sent to suppliers where the retailers seek to impose a change to payment terms for orders placed after March 1st. The letter says that it will be including an additional 2pc turnover rebate.

GIMA, the association representing manufacturers in the garden industry, is urging its members to stand firm and resist such tactics.

Gardenforum understands that the cannier supplier can often turn such demands into an opportunity, resisting the demands on the one hand while building additional margin on the other. They can often end up the winner.
