Proposed solar farm threatens closure of Barnsdale Gardens

Company: Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens, a renowned leader in peat-free and chemical-free gardening since its founding in 1983 by Geoff Hamilton, faces a potential threat from a proposed solar farm.

The gardens, which host Britain's largest collection of individually designed gardens across eight acres, are concerned about the potential damage to their diverse flora and fauna.

The solar farm is planned for 81 hectares of fields adjacent to Barnsdale.

The constant noise from motorized panels tracking the sun would disrupt the rich wildlife habitat and detract from the peaceful experience of visitors. Additionally, the three-meter-high solar panels would overshadow the gardens, replacing the stunning green fields and beautiful blue sky that are currently part of the landscape.

Nick Hamilton, son of Geoff Hamilton and owner of Barnsdale Gardens, emphasized the importance of finding a more appropriate location for the solar farm to preserve his father's legacy. He stated, "If the solar farm goes ahead, I will have no other option than to close Barnsdale Gardens".
