Wyevale Nurseries is entering five new plants into the New Product Showcase at the UK’s leading garden and outdoor living tradeshow in Birmingham.
The company has submitted Panicum virgatum ‘Hot Rod’, Dianella tasmanica ‘Blue Stream’, Pyracantha coccinea ‘Red Star’, Dryopteris ‘Jurassic Gold’ and Agapanthus ‘Poppin Purple’
to the Plant, Seed & Bulb category at Glee.
Colin Stanley, Retail Sales Manager at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford, said: “We have selected these new plants from our 2020 90th Anniversary Celebratory Promotional catalogue. They all have a certain characteristic that will be very appealing to gardeners, whether it’s their colour, floral display or size.
“The New Product Showcase is one of Glee’s most inspirational features and is the place for buyers to source the most unique and sought-after products at the show. We’re delighted this year to be entering five of our new plants into the Plant, Seed & Bulb category.”
Panicum virgatum ‘Hot Rod’
A bright and colourful new introduction that is compact, drought and salt tolerant. It is clump forming with excellent blue-green foliage that takes on deep burgundy colour throughout the summer. The airy purple flower panicles have showy seed heads that provide winter interest and are attractive to wildlife.
Dianella tasmanica ‘Blue Stream’
A brilliant clump forming Dianella. This variety is strong and vigorous with glaucous blue foliage. A great container plant that is suitable for beds and borders. It has a new, bright glaucous foliage, which gives all year-round colour.
Pyracantha coccinea ‘Red Star’
This brand-new variety has masses of pure red berries from autumn onwards and has 80% less thorns compared to other pyracanthas. It is suitable for containers, hedges or covering a wall. Vivid red berries remain on the plant through Christmas and into the new year. The berries have incredible longevity.
Dryopteris ‘Jurassic Gold’
Retaining that Dryopteris ruggedness, this brand-new addition erupts in golden new foliage in the spring. Shade and moisture tolerant, this hardy fern will grow well in a patio pot or planted in groups for a striking gold contrast.
Agapanthus ‘Poppin Purple’
A brand-new evergreen Agapanthus with metallic purple buds that open into dark purple flowers on compact stems. Reaching 60cm tall, it is ideal for containers and displaying as a bed end. It’s a faster grower than other varieties with an incredible flower period and fast rebloom.
The New Product Showcase will feature more than 300 of the latest products from well-known market leading brands as well as some never-before-seen start-ups, offering huge diversity.
A team of experts will judge all entries and present the awards to the winners at 5pm on Tuesday, September 10.
