Westland Horticulture launch a first in carbon neutral compost
Westland Horticulture, home to market leading brands such as Jack’s Magic, Boost, Resolva, Peckish, Unwins and Kent & Stowe, is pleased to launch a first in carbon neutral compost as part of a new partnership with Carbon Gold, the world’s longest standing biochar brand.
The launch of the carbon neutral compost from Westland is a true first in growing media using biochar, and follows extensive development, which now combines Westland’s excellence in growing performance with a zero-carbon footprint. The production of biochar is a scientifically verified Negative Emissions Technology CO2 removal process - a Nature Based Solution.
Westland is a world leader in peat free technology and the partnership with Carbon Gold further strengthens the Company’s offerings to both consumers and professional growers. This partnership will bring a range of enriched biochar products to consumers for the first time, allowing home gardeners to naturally improve the health of their soil, sequester carbon and mitigate climate in a simple, accessible, and sustainable way. The partnership also highlights Westland’s commitment to sustainable horticulture and the carbon neutral compost will be launched at the GLEE trade show later this year.
Carbon Gold have been pioneers within the biochar industry since 2007. Since then, they have achieved B-Corp certification, and been granted The King’s Royal Warrant. Their products are Soil Association approved and backed by nearly two decades of research and development. For over a decade, Carbon Gold products have been used professionally within commercial fruit and vegetable growers, professional tree growers, sports turf such as Premier League football clubs, racing and golf courses and in urban landscaping.
Keith Nicholson, Marketing Director, at Westland Horticulture, commented: “Enriched Biochar has an important role to play in the future of sustainable gardening, and Carbon Gold has developed environmentally conscious products that we will bring to many gardeners going forward. The introduction of Westland’s carbon neutral compost represents the direction of our partnership and the technical advancements from our R&D team in creating this new standard in sustainable growing. This collaboration again places Westland at the forefront of consumer horticulture and displays our commitment to delivering real sustainable gardening.”
Executive Chairman for Carbon Gold, Craig Sams, added: “We’re excited for this partnership with Westland – as a leader in the horticulture industry and a business that shares our goals, we’re confident that working together will encourage gardeners to choose a more environmentally-friendly approach, with biochar at its heart. Biochar has the potential to make a significant contribution to this CO2 removal, using the soil for carbon capture and storage. That is our mission.”
