Gertrude Jekyll® named World’s Favourite Rose 2025

Company: David Austin Roses

David Austin® Roses is proud to announce that Gertrude Jekyll® (Ausbord) has been named the 2025 World’s Favourite Rose by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS). The award was revealed during the 20th World Rose Convention held in Fukuyama, Japan, where rose enthusiasts from 40 member countries came together to celebrate the best in rose breeding.

First introduced at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 1986, Gertrude Jekyll® has become one of the most beloved English roses, known for its vibrant pink blooms, rich old rose fragrance, and a form that reflects the elegance and gardening legacy of its namesake, Gertrude Jekyll.

The WFRS Hall of Fame, created in 1968, honours exceptional roses through an international ballot held every three years. David Austin’s Graham Thomas® (Ausmas) was previously recognised in 2009, and now Gertrude Jekyll® joins an exclusive list of 19 roses that have captured the admiration of gardeners worldwide.

WFRS Executive Director Derek Lawrence praised the rose, saying: “Gertrude Jekyll is an absolute gem and a worthy winner. Healthy, robust growth, with gorgeous pink blooms, which contain an exquisite and heavenly perfume.”

David J.C. Austin, Chairman of David Austin® Roses, expressed gratitude for the recognition: “Gertrude Jekyll’s timeless beauty and fragrance have found a special place in the hearts of rose lovers everywhere. We are truly honoured it has been named the world’s favourite rose.”

This award marks another significant milestone for David Austin® Roses and underscores the enduring appeal of the English rose. Gertrude Jekyll® continues to inspire gardeners globally with its blend of traditional charm and reliable performance.
