Garden of Evolution wins BBC Gardeners’ World Live top honour

Professor Alice Roberts’ Garden of Evolution has been awarded Best Show Garden and a Platinum award at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2026.

Designed by David Stevens and built by Design It Landscapes, the immersive garden takes visitors on a journey through 500 million years of evolution, featuring prehistoric landscapes, ancient forests and changing ecosystems.

The garden combines horticulture, science and storytelling, highlighting biodiversity, conservation and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.

BBC Gardeners’ World Live assessors praised its high-quality construction, specimen planting and educational impact.

Best Showcase Garden and a Platinum award went to Greenhouse Noir, designed by Matt Bettison, with the garden also receiving the Best Construction Landscaper award.

In the Beautiful Borders category, Mark Selby’s The Pioneering Spirit secured Best Beautiful Border and a Platinum award for its blend of sustainable materials, adventurous planting and functional design.

Jan O’Brien received Best Interpretation of the ‘Once Upon a Time’ theme for Threads of Life, while Georgina Spencer and Alice Pote won Best BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Subscriber Border with Return to Gothic.

Kate McCallum’s By the Light of the Moon claimed Best WFGA Border, celebrating the magic of twilight through wildlife-friendly planting and imaginative design.

BBC Gardeners’ World Live continues at the NEC Birmingham until 21 June, showcasing more than 45 show gardens, borders and floral displays alongside celebrity guests, plant exhibits and gardening inspiration.

BBC Gardeners’ World Live is at the NEC Biringham until Sunday 21 June. Tickets are on sale at www.bbcgardenersworldlive.com and include entry to Good Food Show Summer (goodfoodshowsummer.com), featuring kitchen talks, stages and demonstrations, and food and drink tasting and shopping. This year’s guests include James Martin, Si King, The Fletchers (Fletchers’ Family Farm) and Dr. Chintal Patel.
