Tom Bootsma becomes Aquaja co-owner

Tom Bootsma has become co-owner of Aquaja after acquiring 50% of the company’s shares on May 1, 2026.
The move marks a significant step in Aquaja’s long-term strategy, reinforcing its commitment to independence, continued growth and further professionalisation within the international aquatics and pet retail sector.
Bootsma joined the company as an intern in 2011 and, over nearly 15 years, has become a central figure within the organisation. His experience spans production, project execution and day-to-day operational management.
Aquaja has grown into an internationally active business specialising in retail concepts, tailor-made aquatics systems and complete solutions for the pet retail industry across Europe.
Under the renewed ownership structure, Danny Janssen will focus more heavily on concept development, commercial strategy and international expansion, while Bootsma will oversee internal organisation and operational processes.
Bootsma said he was proud of the trust placed in him and looked forward to helping shape the future of the company during its next stage of development.
Janssen praised Bootsma’s long-standing loyalty and contribution to Aquaja’s growth, describing him as a key pillar of the business and an ideal long-term partner for the company’s future ambitions.
