Pam Pointer award winner from Bransford Webbs

Company: The Bransford Webbs Plant Company
Sam Olesky, Apprentice at The Bransford Webbs Plant Company, has won the Pam Pointer Award for 2025 through the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH). The award recognises horticultural students for outstanding achievements in both academic and practical pursuits with a prize of attendance at a Chartered Institute of Horticulture event and a one-year free Associate Membership.

Mark Diggines, Trainer / Assessor at Pershore College, who nominated Sam for the award commented, "Sam has been an excellent student throughout her apprenticeship. She has demonstrated a passion for the industry and a strong desire to learn as much as she can. Hopefully, the award of a year’s free membership with the Chartered Institute of Horticulture will enable her to continue building on what she has learnt and to progress within the Production Horticulture sector."
Sam is just completing a two-year apprenticeship at Bransford Webbs, working towards a Level 3 Crop Technician Qualification. During the first six months of her apprenticeship, Sam applied for and gained the position of permanent Grower Team Leader for one of our Glasshouse areas, where she is responsible for 5000m2 of crops including watering, monitoring, cultural work and despatch along with the responsibility of a small team at certain times. Sam also won a place as an IPPS six packer last October, attending the annual conference in Surrey.

“Sam is clearly very keen to learn and develop in order to improve her knowledge and skills”, commented Karl O’Neill, Technical Production Director. “She is a very good grower, extremely engaged and interested in the tasks of her role, with a quiet assuredness making her dependable in her position”.
