James Barnes will step down as Chairman of the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) at the AGM in September 2025, ending a tenure that began in 2019. With over 25 years of business experience, James has been a passionate advocate for the environmental horticulture sector, helping to shape HTA’s strategic direction and strengthen its leadership team.

He played a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic, securing the reopening of garden centres and supporting industry resilience. James also advanced the HTA’s influence on key issues such as peat-free gardening and trade policy.

HTA President Will Armitage praised James’ commitment and leadership, saying he leaves a lasting legacy. James reflected positively on his time at the HTA and said he looks forward to continuing to support the industry.
