Greenfingers Charity welcomes six new garden ambassadors

Company: Greenfingers

Greenfingers Charity has taken an important step in expanding its support for children’s hospices by appointing six new Garden Ambassadors. This development marks a significant moment for the organisation, which has spent more than two decades designing therapeutic outdoor spaces for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The new ambassadors—Alex Valk, Penny Veel, Marion Cooper, Lisa White, and garden designers Phil Hirst and Jo Charlton—will play a key role in the ongoing care of these special gardens. Each brings valuable experience and a strong commitment to ensuring the spaces continue to offer comfort, tranquillity and connection for those who rely on them.

Already, the ambassadors have begun meeting with hospice staff and volunteers, taking the time to understand how each garden is used and how it can continue to evolve. These early visits lay the foundations for meaningful collaboration, ensuring every garden remains not only beautiful but supportive of the emotional and physical needs of families.

Neil Sewell, Operations Director of Greenfingers Charity, highlighted the importance of this step, emphasising that the ambassadors’ involvement will make a lasting difference. Their passion and practical expertise will help maintain the charity’s gardens to a high standard, ensuring they remain uplifting, accessible and cared for throughout the year.

This new programme builds on Greenfingers’ remarkable legacy. Over the past 25 years, the charity has created nearly 70 therapeutic gardens across the UK, offering spaces where families can pause, reflect and make precious memories together. The ambassador scheme ensures this care continues long after each garden’s initial creation.

Looking ahead, the charity expects to welcome more ambassadors in 2026 and beyond, strengthening the support network behind these cherished spaces. Greenfingers is encouraging skilled, self-employed gardeners to learn more about future opportunities, helping ensure its gardens continue to flourish for the families who need them most.
