Bira award gives Durstons a boost

Company: Durston Garden Products

Somerset based Durston Garden Products was given a real boost last week when the company took home a coveted British Independent Retailer Association (bira) award.

Presented by the British Hardware Federation – the garden and DIY division of bira, Durstons collected The Best Garden Product 2013 award, for the company’s extensive range of growing media, soil improvers and other garden products incorporating the innovative ingredient ‘Gro-Boost’.  During his presentation Richard Rowlatt said “it’s good to see a manufacturer taking their environmental responsibility seriously”.

The development of Gro-Boost came as a direct result of Durston’s long-term commitment and investment in its research programme.  An organic substrate including material sourced from local recycling, Gro-Boost reduces the level of peat use whilst producing a long-lasting nutrient boost for growing plants.

“The whole team is extremely proud to have been involved in the development of our range of quality products.” said Chris Durston, joint managing director.

The award also acknowledges how seriously the company takes its environmental responsibilities through managing its land sensitively, and restoring and adding new wildlife habitats after the peat has been removed.
