Longacres warns about a plausible new Scam
Gardenforum has received an alert from Longacres Nurseries about a scam that was spotted at the end of last year.
Michael Ainley, IT manager at Longacres wrote, “At the back end of last year a supplier got in touch to tell us that a fake letter confirming their ‘new bank details’ including sort code and account number had done the rounds.
“It was a well-written letter, very plausible and no different to several such letters we receive every year. Luckily this one was spotted quickly as someone phoned the company to confirm the details.”
Longacres suggests that every accounts department is warned about of this type of scam. It suggests that best practice should be to phone the supplier any time such a letter is received, to confirm it’s a genuine.
