Climate Scientist Professor Tamsin Edwards to speak

Company: GCA

The Garden Centre Association (GCA) has announced that climate scientist Professor Tamsin Edwards will take to the stage at its 2026 Annual Conference at Carden Park, Chester, on Tuesday 27 January.

Professor Edwards is a leading expert in climate science, specialising in quantifying uncertainties in climate model predictions, particularly relating to ice sheets, glaciers and sea level rise. She is widely recognised for her ability to communicate complex scientific research clearly to a broad audience.

GCA Chairman Elect and Haskins Garden Centres Operations Director, Ben Harrison, said climate change remains a recurring and vital topic for GCA members, given the direct impact weather patterns have on the horticultural retail sector. He highlighted Professor Edwards’ role as a Lead Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and her current position advising the UK Parliament on climate and environmental research.

An award-winning science communicator, Professor Edwards regularly appears on national television and radio, including BBC News at Ten, ITV News and BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. She has also co-presented the BBC Radio 4 series 39 Ways to Save the Planet and contributes to public discourse through writing and digital platforms.

GCA CEO Peter Burks said Professor Edwards’ academic research, combined with her teaching role at King’s College London, makes her a highly engaging speaker. He added that her presentation will encourage delegates to explore evidence-based thinking, challenge assumptions and gain a deeper understanding of climate science and future projections.

The GCA’s 60th anniversary Annual Conference runs from 25–28 January 2026 at Carden Park, Chester. Representing more than 200 garden centres nationwide, the GCA continues to support members through shared knowledge and its inspection programme. Tickets are available via the members’ section of the GCA website or the conference booking portal.
