Industry profits boosted by 2009 spring

Nurseries
Barenbrug UK published a profit of £269k on sales of £6.6m for y/e June 09.
Losses at Butters Group reduced to £820k on sales of £36.8m. Y/e Sep 09.
Darby Nursery Stock increased profits to £192k for y/e Jan 09.
David Austin Roses increased profits to £1.1m on sales of £7.1m for y/e Jul 09.
Sales at Elsoms Seeds increased by 18% to £17.7m. Profits increased to £1.2m for y/e Jun 09.
Europlants (UK) suffered a reduction in turnover to £6.3m. There was a small loss of £27k for y/e Jan 09.
Results from Hillier Nurseries include both the nurseries and garden centres. Sales edged higher to £26.8m, while profits were halved at £554k for the y/e Aug 2009.
Sales at Peter H Smith edged higher to £9.5m, profits slipped to £317k for y/e Sep 09.
R A Meredith & Son (Nurseries) reported a large recovery in profits to £636k on sales of £17.3m for y/e Dec 09.
Wyevale Nurseries increased sales by 21% to £8.75m. Profits were £71k. Y/e Jul 09.
Wyevale Holdings declared a profit of £326k on sales of £7.1m for y/e Jul 09.

Suppliers / Manufacturers
Sales fell £3m at Alexander Rose, garden furniture importers, to £10m. Profits increased to £456k for y/e Aug 09.
Bulrush Horticulture returned to profit with £1.1m on sales up 5% to £12.2m. Y/e Sep 09.
Dagless, manufacturer of wooden garden buildings, reported sales of £9.1m but made a loss of £171k for y/e Dec 08.
Sales fell 12% at Desch Plantpak to £11.7m. Losses increased to £2.5m for y/e Dec 08.
DLF Trifolium increased sales 5% to £26.5m. Profits increased to £1.14m for y/e Jun 09.
Losses increased at Forest Garden Group to £2.2m on sales down 5.5% to £49.7m. Y/e Dec 08.
Gisela Graham kept sales level at £10.5m. Profits fell slightly to £242k for year to Jun 09.
Sales fell 13% at Grange Fencing. Profits fell to £158k for y/e Sep 09.
Losses at Home Hardware Southwest were almost eliminated (-£16k) as sales increased to £22.6m for y/e Jun 09.
Humax Horticulture, now owned by Scotts Miracle-Gro, reported sales of £5.3m with losses of £780k for y/e Dec 08.
Interpet increased sales by 4% to £17.7m. Losses increased sharply to £1.1m. Y/e Sep 2009.
Kettler (GB) increased losses to £1.7m for y/e Dec 08.
Norfolk Leisure – Acamp increased turnover £2.5m but reported losses of £621k for y/e Jun 09.
Oase (UK) reported sales of £5.8m with profits slightly lower at £444k for y/e Sep 09.
Plum Products fell to a loss of £220k for y/e Dec 08.
Sales and profits fell at Premier to £25.1m and £485k respectively for y/e Jun 09.
Proteam UK increased sales to £15.7 with profits of £1.5m for y/e Aug 09.
Profits at Smithers-Oasis UK halved to £1m for y/e Mar 09.
Sales at Stewart Plastics grew to £12.5m. Profits increased to £1.3m for y/e Sep 09.
Suttons Consumer Products increased turnover by 9% to £18.8m. Profits increased sharply to £1.1m for y/e Jun 09.
Swan Hattersley reported sales of £7.4m. Profits recovered to £61k for y/e Jul 09.
Sales leapt 33% at Thompson & Morgan (UK) to £16.4m with profits also sharply higher at £1.1m for y/e Jun 09.
Tom Chambers reported sales of £8.5m and profits that increased to £310k. Y/e Jul 09.
Turnover fell back at William Sinclair Holdings to £46.2m, but profits recovered to £1.2m for y/e Sep 09.

Garden Centres / Retailers
Aylett Nurseries revealed a profit of £58k on sales of £6.8m for y/e Oct 09.
Sales fell at Brampton Garden Centre, part of the Frosts Group, to £3.1m. Profits edged into the black at £29k. Y/e Jul 09.
Chatsworth Garden Centre made a loss of £61k on sales of £2.2m for year to Mar 09.
Coolings Nurseries reported sales of £5.6m with a profit of £564k for y/e Jan 09.
Sales remained static for D J Squire & Co at £28.8m. Profits increased to £2.8m for y/e Jul 09.
Frosts Garden Centre that operates 3 garden centres, published sales of £13.6m. There was a small profit of £27k for y/e Jul 09.
Gordale Nurseries returned a profit of £959k on sales of £8m for y/e Sep 09.
Hobbycraft Group sales increased 11% to £68.7m while profits leapt 67% to £5.4m for y/e Feb 09.
Leekes turnover increased 9% to £58.8m, but profits fell sharply to £716k during y/e Mar 09.
Sales at Millets Farm Garden Centre, part of the Frosts Group, slipped back to £4.4m. Profits doubled to £226k for y/e Jul 09.
Newbank Garden Centre reported sales of £7.6m but fell to a loss of £250k for y/e Aug 09.
Notcutts sales moved sharply higher to £57.3m. Profits increased sharply to £3.4m for y/e Aug 09.
Park Garden Centre increased sales to £10.5m with profits topping £1m for y/e Aug 09.
Profits at Poplars Nursery Garden Centre fell back to £347k for y/e Feb 09.
Scotsdale Nursery and Garden Centre edged sales up to £13.9m. Profits were sharply higher at £854k for y/e Jul 09.
Shoots Garden Centres increased sales to £6.8m with profits of £10k for y/e Aug 09.
The Barton Grange Group increased sales to £18.7m but declared a loss of £420k for y/e Jan 09.
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill increased turnover to £157.8m with profits of £23m for y/e Feb 09.
Woodcote Green Nurseries increased sales by 11% to £9.4m. Profits slipped back to £146k in the y/e Aug 09.

Landscapers
Sales and profit edged higher at Frosts Landscape Construction to £9.8m and £255k respectively for y/e Jul 09.
