Yorkshire Garden Centre Group raises over £11,000

Company: Yorkshire Garden Centre Group

A digital donation scheme has helped Yorkshire Garden Centres group raise £11,313 for its 2024/25 charity of the year, Martin House Children’s Hospice. The funds were collected through a partnership with fintech charity Pennies, which allows customers to round up their total at checkout to include a small donation.

The Pennies initiative launched across all seven garden centre sites in May, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers have embraced the option to give at the till, boosting the group's fundraising total towards its ambitious £30,000 target.

Yorkshire Garden Centres' tills and customer services manager, Diane Farrar, led the roll-out. “We’re delighted that the Pennies initiative has raised so much in such a short space of time, thanks to the incredible generosity of our customers,” she said. “Pennies offers a simple, safe and sustainable way to donate, and it’s made a real difference.”

Martin House partnership manager Hannah Finan added: “This amount could help fund a specialist bed, a week of home-cooked meals for families, or two weeks' worth of medical supplies. Every penny truly does count—and we’re so grateful to every single donor.”

The Yorkshire Garden Centres group is also running fundraising events throughout the year to support Martin House, which provides palliative care and support to children and families across West, North and East Yorkshire.

The group includes Tong, Tingley, Otley, Bingley, Dean’s York, Dean’s Scarborough, and Pennine Garden Centre in Huddersfield. Each site has a dedicated charity champion, also supporting local causes through the group’s Kindness Pot initiative.
