Mental health charity benefit from eco-friendly decking donation

The UK’s largest sustainable decking brand, Composite Prime has donated 92m² of sustainable composite decking to the offices of a national mental health charity to provide service users with an area for relaxation.

Mind, is a registered mental health charity committed to improving mental health in the UK. Installed in collaboration with Essex Premier Gardens, HD Deck Dual was used to transform the garden space in front of the offices at Havering Mind in East London.

Charles Taylor, director at Composite Prime, said: “We were delighted to be able to support such a fantastic charity, alongside Essex Premier Garden and to provide a much needed outdoor space for service users that will last a lifetime. Mind provides crucial services for people with mental health issues and we hope the organisation will find the new relaxation area a great place to unwind and be closer to nature.”

Made from  FSC 100% certified quality oak wood fiber and recycled plastics, each square metre of Composite Prime decking contains the equivalent of more than 3,000 plastic bottle caps. In the seven years of operation the brand has saved the equivalent of 176 million plastic milk bottles from landfill and over 1.8 billion bottle top caps.

Ciaran White, events and community fundraiser at Havering Mind added: “We desperately needed a practical outdoor space for our service users to enjoy, and so we’re very grateful to both businesses for their kind donations. The pandemic has been incredibly tough for everyone and has had a huge impact on mental health. It is wonderful to know that there are people willing to donate time and funding to organisations that really need the support during difficult times.

“The composite decking is the perfect solution for us as it looks natural and fits in with the woodland surroundings but is extremely low maintenance and will not require us to undertake annual painting and staining.”

Composite Prime manufactures a range of nine products, including cladding, decking and flooring, which are tested against the latest requirements to measure strength, impact resistance, weathering, extreme temperature cycles, UV resistance and water absorption.
