GARDENA and the National Allotment Society have crowned the 2025 Top of the Plots winners, celebrating inspiring gardens, allotments and community spaces that showcase the creativity, joy and wellbeing of grow-your-own culture.

Grow-your-own expert Huw Richards joined GARDENA and the National Allotment Society (NAS) at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons to reveal the winners of the inaugural Top of the Plots competition, celebrating the best of Britain’s gardening brilliance.

Steve Mills from Barnet, North London, was crowned the overall 2025 winner, impressing judges with his mesmerising, three-level, S-shaped allotment maze, fruit and flower tunnel of more than 100 trees, and 14 years of dedication to his “pride and joy.”

The competition attracted over 100 entries, as green-fingered gardeners showcased plots large and small. With more Britons paving over gardens, the event reminded the nation of the beauty and wellbeing benefits of nurturing green spaces.

Roger Atkinson from Solihull won Best Allotment for his “stress-busting” plot, while Donna Harris from Leicestershire scooped Best New Plot for her “life-changing” garden. Victoria Holden’s Failsworth-based Northern Lily’s Community Orchard & Garden took Best Community Plot, transforming derelict land into a “hidden gem” serving over 4,000 locals.

Other winners included Rebecca Hale from Norfolk for Best Small Plot, and David Gallacher from Falkirk for Biodiversity on the Plot with Tom’s Hidden Garden, a thriving ecosystem of 700 plants. The Kids on the Plot category will be announced next week.

Huw Richards said: “The creativity and care we’ve seen this year have been inspiring. Gardening connects people, nature, and community — and we can’t wait to see what next year brings.” Top of the Plots will return in 2026, with details announced early next year.
