Garden Centre Group smashes its charity fundraising target
The teams at Yorkshire Garden Centres (YGC) group are celebrating a significant achievement as their six sites have surpassed their Charity of the Year fundraising target ahead of schedule.
In April 2024, the teams at YGC's sites in Tong, Tingley, Otley, Bingley, York, and Scarborough committed to raising £20,000 for the Yorkshire Children's Charity, an independent organization dedicated to transforming childhoods and improving the lives of thousands of disadvantaged children in Yorkshire. By the end of January 2025, the amount raised had exceeded £20,400.
The fundraising efforts are managed by a dedicated committee led by the People and Culture team. Steph Harrison, YGC's Group People and Culture Manager, expressed her delight at the achievement: "Yorkshire Children's Charity aims to make sure no child or young person is left behind due to ill health, disability, or financial circumstance. They help children be who they want to be and get where they want to go, and we're delighted to have exceeded our fundraising goal with two months to go."
The collaborative efforts across all centres included a variety of activities such as sporting events, raffles, bake sales, competitions, and play parties at Grass Hoppers. Special recognition was given to Otley team member Lynsey Dyson, who played a pivotal role in organizing numerous fundraisers, including raffles and team bingo nights, contributing over £2,500 to the total amount raised.
Charlotte Farrington, CEO and Founder of Yorkshire Children's Charity, praised the partnership, stating, "We are continuously blown away by the strength of the Yorkshire brand and our ability as a region to come together to do the right thing for children and young people who need our help. So, to find a partner in Yorkshire Garden Centres who so clearly aligns with our vision and mission is just fantastic."
The successful fundraising efforts of YGC reflect the strong community spirit and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people in Yorkshire. As the teams continue to support the Yorkshire Children's Charity, their efforts are sure to bring further benefits and opportunities to those in need.
