Frank P. Matthews celebrates 125 years with Open Day

Frank P. Matthews Trees celebrated its 125th anniversary by welcoming customers, suppliers and industry partners to a special Open Day at its Worcestershire nursery.
Founded in 1901, the fourth-generation family business now operates across 500 acres, producing more than one million fruit and ornamental trees annually for gardeners, retailers, growers and landscape professionals across the UK.
Guests enjoyed tractor tours of the nursery, offering a behind-the-scenes look at tree production, propagation and the expertise that has underpinned the business for more than a century.
The event also featured grafting demonstrations, discussions on tree growing and plant breeding, and insights into the nursery's work to preserve heritage fruit varieties while developing new cultivars.
Sustainability and innovation were key themes throughout the day, with visitors learning more about the nursery's long-term commitment to responsible production and genetic diversity.
The anniversary follows another milestone for the business after it received an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal earlier this year for its display of Malus trees.
Director Steph Dunn James said the Open Day was an opportunity to thank customers, suppliers and partners for their continued support while celebrating the nursery's rich history.
She added that the company remains focused on the future through continued innovation, new varieties and supporting gardeners, growers and landscape professionals.
The anniversary celebrations highlighted both Frank P. Matthews Trees' 125-year legacy and its continuing contribution to British horticulture.
