Bulrush opens new coir plant to strengthen supply

Bulrush Horticulture has announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art coir processing plant at its Magherafelt site in Northern Ireland, reinforcing its commitment to supply security for UK growers.
The investment comes at a critical time for the horticulture and substrate sectors, as prolonged wet weather across mainland Europe has severely disrupted peat harvesting, leading to historically low production levels and increased pressure on alternative materials.
With global demand for sustainable substrates continuing to rise, Bulrush has acted proactively to secure coir supplies and significantly increase its processing capacity. The new facility is already fully stocked and operating ahead of schedule.
In addition to meeting increased demand, the new processor provides an essential back-up, protecting customers against potential disruption to production or supply during the coming season.
Sales Director Alex Julien said the investment reflects Bulrush’s long-term planning and commitment to customers, adding that robust safeguards are now in place to allow the business to operate as normal despite market uncertainty.
As planning for the year ahead begins, Bulrush is encouraging growers to submit schedules early to support effective forecasting, while continuing to invest in innovations that strengthen its position as a trusted leader in high-performance substrates.
