York Christmas Trees from Yorkshire has been crowned Champion Christmas Tree Grower of the Year 2026, earning the opportunity to supply a real British-grown Christmas tree for display outside No. 10 Downing Street this Christmas.
Santa Trees from Cornwall won Champion Festive Wreath of the Year for its naturally decorated wreath, which will adorn the door of No. 10. Welford Christmas Tree Farm from Northamptonshire was named runner-up in the tree-growing category and will supply trees for display inside Downing Street.
Celebrating British growers
Organised by the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA), the annual competition has been running since 1999 and is open to its 300 members across the UK. The awards recognise the skill and dedication of growers and businesses producing festive centrepieces for homes and businesses nationwide.
The 2026 competition took place on Wednesday 14 October at Sutton Hall Christmas Trees in Barcombe, East Sussex, with headline sponsor DigiTickets, which provides ticketing and EPOS solutions for Christmas tree growers and visitor attractions.
Winners were chosen by BCTGA members attending Competition Day, who voted for the best technically grown tree and best crafted wreath. Supplying trees and wreaths to No. 10 Downing Street provides a high-profile showcase for British-grown Christmas trees and the growers behind them.
Photography and retail awards
The Photo of the Year award invited members to submit images on the theme ‘British Christmas Trees in the British Countryside’, celebrating Christmas tree growing within the wider rural landscape.
Cadeby Tree Trust from Warwickshire won Photo of the Year, with Clayton Fold Christmas Tree Farm from Cheshire named runner-up. The winner will also supply a Christmas tree for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office this Christmas.
New for 2026 were the Best Retail Tree and Best Retail Wreath awards. Selected by the BCTGA Committee, the categories recognise trees and wreaths considered to have the greatest overall appeal to consumers. Croft Christmas Trees from North Yorkshire won Best Retail Tree with a Nordmann Fir, while Bishops Offley Christmas Trees from Staffordshire took the inaugural Best Retail Wreath award.
Supporting British-grown trees
Russell Parkins, Chair of BCTGA, said: “Competition Day is a real celebration of the skill, dedication and expertise of British Christmas tree growers. With over 100 entries, the standard this year was exceptionally high.
“Our members work throughout the year to produce trees and wreaths of the very highest quality, and all of our winners should be immensely proud of what they have achieved.
“Seeing our winners supply the trees and wreath that take pride of place at No. 10 Downing Street is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the very best of our industry. Every tree entered in the competition was grown here in the UK, and that’s a message we want shoppers to hear as they choose their tree this Christmas. Buying a real British-grown tree supports local growers and rural businesses, and the ten or so years each tree spends growing provide a valuable home for wildlife.”
