New Greenfingers garden at Demelza officially open!

Towards the end of May, we were delighted to officially open the new Greenfingers Garden at Demelza in Sittingbourne, Kent.

It was a particularly poignant and special occasion as in 1999, we celebrated the first-ever Greenfingers garden being opened here, by Greenfingers founding president, Richard Jackson – and now, 25 years later, in this our silver anniversary year, Richard and the team returned to officially open our 66th!

To mark the occasion, the charity’s newest ambassador, Fiona Dolman, star of ITV’s ‘Midsomer Murders’, shared a few words regarding the importance of such garden spaces and their positive impact on those who spend time in them.

Cutting the ribbon were Fiona, Greenfingers Chairman, Sue Allen alongside Demelza’s Hayley Richardson, as well as Elke who is supported by Demelza, and her mum, Glynnis.

Garden makeover at Bluebell Wood

We were back at Bluebell Wood, a children's hospice in Sheffield last month, offering support in the form of a garden makeover to help improve the privacy and the aspect from their two end-of-life Primrose suites.

Intensive clearing and tidying sessions took place, led by James Bird Landscapes who we had worked with before on the original garden – and then a few weeks later, a team of fabulous volunteers took part in a mammoth planting session!

The garden there now looks totally transformed. What was once a sparse and fairly uninspiring area, now exists so that those spending time in these rooms in the most difficult of circumstances can look out on a therapeutic and peaceful garden space.

Huge thanks to our wonderful Greenfingers Charity Ambassadors, Marc (aka @gardeneriddler, Chris (aka @groovygardeninguk), Nat (aka @inside _the_plot), Garden Projects Manager, Joanne, our Operations Director, Neil as well as the brilliant hospice team at Bluebells who worked SO hard to give this Greenfingers Garden such a magnificent makeover!
