Though I have not seen Mike Opperman for some years, I was sorry to learn of the current situation. As a plant and flower wholesaler from 1970 for 30 plus years, I dealt with Mike and indeed his father Roy. He was a very decent person with whom to do business..I was in awe from the operation he ran in the early days to what it became. I also think of P.A .Moerman, an operation that grew successfully but succumbed to changing trading conditions, as indeed have so very many businesses I knew.

Guess it's very dificult to recover when a big customer knocks you. The margin just isnt there and increasing costs of energy, minimum wage and NI are the nail in the coffin. Hopefully Mike and the team can rise from the ashes.

I would imagine that high energy costs ,minimum wage and NI increases were the final straw . I would imagine many commercial nurseries will be in the same position.
