Blue Diamond is to buy Highfield Garden World at Whitminster in Gloucestershire.  Staff have been informed today.

Watching from afar Alan. I remember you outlining your Blue Diamond vision to our American group at Trentham about 2006. That's quite a journey in 20 years, congratulations!!

It's great to see the group continue to grow. It's been a monumental journey, and so many staff have grown up, with Blue Diamond and played such a key part. I can say from first hand experience that huge effort is always made in integrate the staff, store & it's history in to the Blue Diamond Family.

Totally agree with what The Cotswold Gardener says. We don’t need yet another Blue Diamond Garden Centre. Bought lots of great plants at Highfield this year. Nothing at Blue Diamond.

Congratulations Blue Diamond, you've got a a real gem, I hope you build on the success that's already there and keep it as a " destination" for a day out with Edinburgh Woolen Mill and Pavers catering for a lot of local business including myself and family. Many would be lost without these concessions. These attract a customer base of people who may have little or no garden to spend money on. A lot of staff have worked there for years and are really helpful and knowledgeable.

It's sad when people expose their ignorance and thus their bigotry like this, Ben, but it's all too common in this social media age. You obviously know nothing about our business. On top of that, why is our purchase of a family business, where we preserve the name and history of the family business, worse than [others] just putting their name above the door?

So sad to hear that Highfield Garden World is being taken over by Blue Diamond. Gloucestershire doesn't need another boring, over-priced chain Garden Centre, (excluding British Garden Centres). Instead, it needs the vibrancy, excitement and value for money of independent retailers, who offer something more than just the 'same old'. No doubt the Greenway family sold out because a big fat cheque is coming their way. A worrying state of affairs, that's no doubt reflected across the horticultural industry nationwide, as family owners approach retirement. RIP Highfield Garden World!
